Spectacular ‘Torontohenge’ Sunset Expected at 5:50 p.m. EST tonight!

InstantWeather

You are in for a spectacular sunset phenomenon known as ‘Torontohenge’ tonight at 5:50 p.m. EST in downtown Toronto. Many of you may have experienced a similar sunset last night on the east-west aligned downtown streets. Tonight the sun will perfectly set within the streets to create a breathtaking, spectacular sunset.

A similar term is used in New York City, “Manhattanhenge” where every year there are a couple of days where the sunset is perfectly aligned alongside the skyscrapers of the downtown streets creating the perfect photo opportunity.

This effect is similar to the one that draws several tourists to Stonehenge every year in Southwest England.

The best places to view this spectacular phenomenon will be along King Street, Adelaide Street or Bloor Street. You may also have luck trying side streets such as Church Street to University Avenue.

Many of you may have experienced last night’s sunset where it was considered a “Half-Sun” as it was aligned halfway above the horizon, however tonight’s will allow viewers a “Full-Sun” effect.

If you have to miss tonight’s specular sunset, you can still catch a glimpse of this similar effect on April 22nd and 23rd.
