Incredible Up Close Video of a Tornado in Indiana on July 20th, 2018

It’s quite common for tornadoes to be captured on video at a distance typically by storm chasers, but rarely do we get to see a tornado touch down literally metres away from the person taking the video. A local resident in Corydon, Indiana was taking a video of the rapidly rotating clouds above them when suddenly it produced a tornado right across the street.

They continued to film as it travelled across the neighbourhood with it at some points going back into the clouds before touching down again. Some damage was reported throughout that neighbourhood, but it looks like it wasn’t too significant.
PSA: Severe weather can be extremely dangerous and especially tornadoes can be very unpredictable when they touch down. Even if a tornado is quite a distance away from you it can throw projectiles from far away which could result in significant injuries or death. Tornadoes can change direction without notice and by the time you notice that it’s coming towards you it’s likely too late for you to escape. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY IF YOU SEE SEVERE WEATHER; A VIDEO IS NOT WORTH YOUR LIFE!! Leave the storm chasing and videography to trained professionals.
Believe it or not, this tornado was also captured on a second video from a security camera in the same neighbourhood! Around the 55 second mark, you can see the twister go across the field in the upper left corner of the video. It ends up hitting a house across the street throwing some items around before disappearing out of the frame.

According to WAVE3 News, four tornadoes touched down within the county and The National Weather Service has since confirmed them as EF1 strength with winds of 105mph (170km/h).
Approximately 20 homes sustained some level of damage including several mobile homes that were ripped from their foundations and completely destroyed. A volunteer firefighter sustained minor injuries, but thankfully no deaths were reported.
