Environment Canada

(Locations listed below description)

Heavy rain is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

Total rainfall: 50 to 80 mm with locally higher amounts possible.

Locations: Southwestern Newfoundland.

Time span: Friday evening until Saturday evening.

Remarks: A brief period of snow or freezing rain may precede the rain Friday afternoon. The heaviest rain is expected overnight Friday night and Saturday. A special weather statement is also in effect to describe the rapid change to wintry conditions after the rain.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
