Flash Freeze Warning Issued

Environment Canada

(Locations listed below description)

Temperatures are forecast to fall rapidly. Ponding water, slush, and any falling precipitation will freeze as the temperature drops.

Locations: Deer Lake to Terra Nova, and the Northeast Coast.

Temperatures: Falling rapidly from plus 7 degrees to minus 8 degrees.

Time span: Late this evening.

Remarks: Temperatures will fall very rapidly from West to East late this evening with the passage of an intense cold front. The front is expected to pass through the Deer Lake area mid-evening and will reach Terra Nova near midnight.

Standing water from today's rainfall and snowmelt will re-freeze as the temperatures drop.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Flash freeze warnings are issued when a rapid drop in temperature is expected, that can cause water from rain or melted snow on streets and sidewalks to quickly freeze.
