Environment Canada

(Locations listed below description)

Snow, at times heavy, followed by a prolonged period of freezing rain, is expected.

Locations Gros Morne; Deer Lake - Humber Valley; Green Bay - White Bay.

Time span: Friday evening until Sunday afternoon.

Total snowfall: 10 to 20 cm. Total freezing rain amounts: 30 to 50 mm (highest amounts inland). Total rainfall amounts: 25 to 40 mm (mainly near the Coast).

Similar storms in the past have caused disruptions to travel and extended utility outages.

Remarks: After an initial period of snow, several hours of freezing rain can be expected, especially over inland locations and across higher elevations. Precipitation will change to rain along parts of the Coast.

Significant ice build-up may occur.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
