Winter Storm Warning Issued

Environment Canada

(Locations listed below description)

Winter weather conditions including freezing rain and heavy snow is expected.

Hazards: Freezing rain with 4 to 8 mm of ice accretion. Heavy snow and ice pellets, with accumulations of 15 to 20 cm. Reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Timing: Freezing rain now through this afternoon changing to ice pellets this evening. Ice pellets changing to heavy snow tonight and then continuing into Monday before tapering to light snow Monday night.

Discussion: Freezing rain is expected today, followed by a change to ice pellets this evening. Ice pellets will transition to heavy snow tonight. Strong northerly winds are also expected to develop tonight and will combine with the heavy snow to produce reduced visibility at times. The snow will taper off and winds will diminish Monday night.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Public safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca .
