NORTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Friday, June 16, 2023

The area of low risk in Northern Ontario will be smaller tomorrow with only a bit of rain expected. High temperatures will once again not exceed 20°C across the region and when combined with moderate relative humidity and low winds, the wildfire risk across the region is expected to remain steady with high risk across most of Northern Ontario.

As things continue to dry following the heavy rain from Monday, we will see the wildfire risk increase to moderate across more of Southern Ontario. For tomorrow, rain is expected from Windsor to Ottawa which will keep the risk at low.

PRAIRIES: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Thursday, June 15, 2023

A combination of heavy rainfall and cooler air continues to keep the wildfire risk at low across most of Alberta and into Northern Saskatchewan. For the rest of Saskatchewan, as well as Manitoba and Northwestern Alberta, the risk is expected to be high as a result of some strong winds and moderately dry conditions.

High temperatures below 20°C across Northern Ontario will maintain the wildfire risk close to the same level that it has been over the past few days, with low to moderate risk for parts of Northeastern Ontario and high risk for the rest of the region.

After several days of widespread low wildfire risk across Southern Ontario, today marks the return of moderate, but only in the Ottawa Valley and Essex County.

Cooler temperatures across Alberta bring the wildfire risk down to low for most of the province and some moderate and high risk present mostly in the southeast. The low and moderate risk can also be expected in Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The rest of Manitoba and a majority of Saskatchewan falls under a high risk, but there will be a large area of extreme risk in Southern Saskatchewan that will be driven by temperatures in the upper 20s and into the lower 30s for tomorrow.

We’re looking at another day of low wildfire risk across Southern Ontario for tomorrow, but it is likely that some moderate risk will return for Thursday.

The wildfire risk is expected to continue to be high across most of the Prairies today with areas of low to moderate risk in Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The situation changes in Western Alberta where cooler air, with high temperatures below 20°, and some rain starting later in the day will limit the wildfire risk to low and moderate.

Yesterday’s rainfall in parts of Northeastern Ontario will maintain the wildfire risk at low to moderate for today. The rest of Northern Ontario can expect a high wildfire risk again for today due to a continued lack of moisture.

The effects of abundant rainfall across Southern Ontario yesterday has carried over to today with a widespread low wildfire risk.

PRAIRIES: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Monday, June 12, 2023

The wildfire risk is expected to be high across most of the Prairies tomorrow with areas of low to moderate risk in Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, as well as through the Rockies and extending slightly eastward. The area of extreme risk has shrunk since our last update and now covers an area of Northwestern Alberta that includes Peace River and Grande Prairie. We’re watching for a significant shift in Alberta later this week that may result in low to moderate risk across the entire province.

NORTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Monday, June 12, 2023

Significant rainfall is expected to move in to parts of Northeastern Ontario overnight tonight and continue throughout the day tomorrow, resulting in a decrease in wildfire risk for this area. In particular, communities south of a line from Marathon, through Kapuskasing, and into Quebec, can expect the wildfire risk to be low to moderate. The rest of Northern Ontario can expect to stay under a high risk with a lack of moisture and high temperatures into the mid and upper 20s.

Widespread rainfall of 30-50+mm overnight tonight and throughout the day tomorrow will put a major dent in the wildfire risk across Southern Ontario. At this point, it appears that this low risk will continue until Thursday so there is the possibility that some open air fire restrictions may been loosened or lifted.

SOUTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Saturday, June 10, 2023

After some scattered showers today in Central and Eastern Ontario and into the GTA, dry conditions will continue tomorrow, elevating most of the area from low to moderate risk. The high risk is expected again for Parry Sound and into Southwestern Ontario, but the extreme risk region has expanded as a result of the continued lack of moisture and temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. There is widespread rainfall expected to move into Southern Ontario beginning Sunday, which will decrease the overall wildfire risk across the region.

Please continue to follow the guidelines set out by local authorities when it comes to open air burning at this time.

PRAIRIES: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Friday, June 9, 2023

The wildfire risk is expected to be high across much of the Prairies tomorrow with a large swath of extreme risk present through Alberta and into Saskatchewan. A few small areas of moderate risk can be found along the American border as well as in Northeastern Manitoba and extreme Northeastern Saskatchewan. The only area of low risk will be in far Northeastern Manitoba, including Churchill.

Please make sure to follow any fire restrictions put in place by local authorities.

NORTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Friday, June 9, 2023

The wildfire risk is expected to be high across most of Northern Ontario on Friday with a small area of extreme risk along the north shore of Lake Huron from approximately Espanola to Bruce Mines and north to Elliot Lake. A large area of moderate risk can be found in the Northwest, including two pockets of low risk within that area.

All fire restrictions and bans that have been issued by the MNR are still in place so please continue to abide by the directions of local authorities.

SOUTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Friday, June 9, 2023

There will be a bit of a reprieve in the wildfire risk across Eastern Ontario, most of Central Ontario, and into the GTA tomorrow, dipping down to low risk. This is attributed to high temperatures under 20°C, higher humidity, and periods of light rain possible overnight tonight and throughout the day tomorrow. The rain might extend into the Parry Sound area, bringing the risk down from extreme to high. In Southwestern Ontario, the risk remains high to extreme with conditions expected to stay dry tomorrow.

At the time of this posting (Thursday evening), none of the fire bans/restrictions have been loosened. Please continue to follow the guidelines set out by local authorities when it comes to open air burning at this time.

The wildfire risk is expected to be high across most of Northern Ontario on Tuesday with a large area of extreme risk in Northeastern Ontario. The risk decreases along the Manitoba border, in the low to moderate range, for tomorrow.

Please note that even if you're not in an Extreme Risk area, the fire situation across the province is very serious. Make sure to follow all fire bans and limitations for your location.

SOUTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Tuesday, June 6, 2023

The wildfire risk remains high and extreme for Southern Ontario tomorrow. Southwestern Ontario, in particular, is under extreme risk due to higher temperatures and lower relative humidity than to the east. The extreme risk is also present for the Parry Sound region due to the low relative humidity in the forecast.
